Diabetes became the most dominating factor in Geeta’s life almost a decade ago. It was like a pre mid-life crisis that dictated everything she ever did or did not do after that.
In the last 10 years, Geeta moved from ignorance & recklessness to doubt & distress to stimuli & motivation and finally to a complete turn-around, exactly in that order. At the centre of it were just 2 simple things – knowledge and the desire to live a good healthy life. Having diabetes is like having another parallel life. Whatever you do in your regular one doesn’t really matter till you have this one in order. And that became the single-minded need of the hour.
A year or so later, there came that moment when diabetes relented. And in that precise moment there was just one thought that invaded her whole being – ‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever’. It was a moment frozen in time, never to fade away. The beauty of good health, of balance, of focus and of sharpness of mind. She decided to capture this beauty for her contemporaries and for posterity. For them to learn from and embrace.
It is this very thought that was the genesis of The unDiplomatic Diabetic. And as Keats continued is his poem so will she.
“but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.”
